This past week I got a 7-days of free game time to play World of Warcraft. You receive these when you’ve been out of the game for about 3 to 6 months as an incentive to come back to the game and see any changes that may have taken place.
Anyways, my sister and I decided to use our free game time passes before they expired yesterday and today respectively.
We are in a guild on the realm we play on and a number of our guildies were there. The guild master happened to have just rolled a new toon in Tauren land I’m guessing since he was questing at Bloodhoof Village in Mulgore and noticed something a little disappointing about the Kyle’s Gone Missing! quest.
Kyle’s Gone Missing! – The Background
There’s this quest in Bloodhoof Village that is given by Ahab Wheathoof, an NPC (non-player character), aka a questgiver, called Kyle’s Gone Missing!.
Kyle’s Gone Missing!
Ahab Wheathoof at Bloodhoof Village in Mulgore wants you to feed his prized puppy, Kyle the Frenzied.
Feed Kyle Tender Strider Meat and return to Ahab Wheathoof.
Kyle fed
Relevant Locations
The entirety of this quest happens in Mulgore.
Description
Help, <name>! My prized puppy, Kyle, has run away! I just know he’s running around Bloodhoof Village, lost and hungry.
Will you find him and feed him? Once he eats he will settle down and come home.
To feed him you will need to find food. His favorite meal is tender strider meat. Just venture east and you should find plenty of striders. Hunt one down and take its succulent meat to Kyle. When you see Kyle in town, put the meat down and he is sure to come to you.
Completion
Rewards
You will receive: 1 75 (or 3 90 if completed at level 85)
Gains
Upon completion of this quest you will gain:
- 630 experience
- 250 reputation with Thunder Bluff
This quest is dedicated to Ezra Chatterton, a brave little kid that loves playing wow, just like most of us. Blizzard made this kid’s dreams come true through the Make-A-Wish Foundation by treating him to a tour of the studio, meeting the development team and making special items, quests and NPC’s just for him, which are playable for us right now.
From what I understand, Ezra designed this quest. He also provided the voice for Ahab Wheathoof.
Ezra passed away October 20, 2008.
The Kyle’s Gone Missing! Quest Altered
If you watch this video you will see the entire quest being completed and how it should all run.
Once this quest got completed and you feed Kyle, he would dance for you for about 10 seconds. As seen at the end of the above clip (timestamp 2:55).
Blizzard Ignores Support Tickets about the Kyle’s Gone Missing! Quest Changes
However, one of the latest patches has made it so that Kyle does howl for you when he receives the meat but he no longer emotes the dance at the end of the quest sequence.
The guild master submitted a support ticket to the gamemasters using the in-game support system to report the glitch. Time passed and the ticket was removed from queue however no response was given one way or the way through email or in-game mail acknowledging the issue.
This is really sad that Blizzard made the efforts to grant a dying boy’s wish and then removed the most coolest part of it.
The guild master issued another support ticket addressing the issue again as well pointing out the complete and utter lack of response from Blizzard about the issue.
Now who knows really if it was Blizzard or something came down from on high from Activision. But the fact that Kyle danced before doesn’t interfere with other aspects of the game, so removing the dog’s dancing emote was if anything a slap in the face to Ezra. Hopefully if enough people complain about the issue, Blizzard will make concerted efforts to fix the Kyle’s Gone Missing quest. At least here’s hoping it happens.
