Read a news article lately about Glee and how the article was questioning the Glee fad fading after The Glee 3D Concert theatrical release ended up being a monumental flop. (see TV.com’s article: “Is the Glee Fad Waning?“)
Glee Fad Waning and with Cause
So I’m gonna weight in on my opinion of what happened where I’m concerned.
Firstly, I have a 9 year old daughter that, who at the age of 7, sort of assisted me in getting sucked into this show in the first place. Also I’m a huge musical / show tunes junkie and Glee offered that to me in spades with how songs got arranged etc.
Glee Creator a Dick
Cory Montieth was unceremoniously informed along with the rest of world that he would not be returning to season 4 after an interview ran in The Hollywood Reporter with Ryan Murphy.
THR: Was the decision something you discussed with Chris, Lea and Cory?
Murphy: I discussed it with Lea and Chris and they both trust the writing and trust me. I think that they felt that it would be great to have an open and closed experience for them to go out while they were on top. They also like the idea that it was very emotional, it will be very sad for me to see them leave. But it’s good because we’re writing to something so powerful, which is those two beloved characters going off and hopefully getting their dream. The whole thing about Glee, it was a risk from the start. It was something nobody thought would work and then it did. We’ve never done anything by the book or what you would think. We just made that decision and I involved Chris and Lea and they thought that was a good idea.
THR: What did Cory have to say?
Murphy: I didn’t talk to Cory about it. I presume he knows. He knows he was a sophomore when the show started.
This is how Ryan Murphy treats one of the people responsible for making Glee an epicly huge franchise.
Ryan Murphy and his cronies are all asshats. I’ve decided to boycott anything that Murphy et al put out from here on out.
I’m sure there are others out there who are similarly minded in the unprofessionalism of Murphy and his crew. I, for one, will not miss seeing his holier-than-thou or ‘yeah,I’m the best’ or ‘my shit don’t stink’ attitude.
I am further tempted to get righteously mean about Murphy’s gayness and how he has forgetten how he was treated badly while growing up or simply never really learned from his experiences, and how the greed and fame has gone to his head and how his fall from on high should be painful and swift. But I won’t.
Good Thing for Glee
With all that said, the only upside to the cast cuts coming is Lea Michele leaving… Couldn’t stand her character, she butchered everything she sang.
The End of my Gleekdom
Overall, I’ll miss watching the show, it was pretty good. But I’m no longer going to endorse anything with a Ryan Murphy attachment. He had his 15 minutes…. twice… (first time during the Nip/Tuck run).
When they’re shafting awesome show creators like Josh Whedon and letting creators like Ryan Murphy run amok, there’s something seriously wrong with things in TV Land. But that’s all another article or four.
